Water is being called the new oil because of its scarcity. All across the planet people are in desperate need of water – a basic for human needs. We can go weeks without food, but only a few days without water and some communities on earth don't have adequate access to clean drinking water. Although many companies and organizations across the globe are trying to find solutions to this worldwide problem, the fact remains that these solutions aren't coming fast enough.
Both the World Health Organization and UNICEF both estimate that about 768 million people don't have access to clean drinking water and as populations continue to rise, more water is needed to support such growth.
A few companies trying to solve this massive problem include:
Consolidated Water – which is an industry-leader in technology for desalinated water. They've been seeing great things in both Mexico and the Caribbean.
MagneGas Corporation – this company has focused their efforts on the sterilization of waste water and have patented their Plasma Arc Flow technology that not only sterilizes water waste, but also produces a useable gas by-product. They are currently going after various global contracts.
Abtech Holdings – has also has success in sterilizing water, this time in flood waters and other contaminated water sources in the U.S.A.
There are obviously many more companies and non-profits doing their share to help solve the world's water crisis and you can, too. Here are a few ways to do your part:
1. Turn off the faucet
Turn off the faucet whenever you're not using water to conserve it. Half of the water use in an average household takes place in the bathroom like when you're shaving or brushing your teeth. Simply turn off the tap when you aren't using the water instead of letting it run continuously.
2. Shop WaterSense Products
Simply shopping for products that feature the WaterSense label can help with the world's water crisis. This is essential a partnership program with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to help consumers find high-efficiency products that use less water to complete the production tasks.
3.Shorter Showers
Instead of taking your time in the shower, shower smart by cutting that time in half. You should also use a low-flow showerhead to save water and energy!
